Permian Global, a United Kingdom-based forest carbon finance business, has appointed Ivy Wong from the grant-making foundation Yayasan Hasanah as Malaysia’s chief executive officer (CEO).
Ivy Wong previously led Yayasan Hasanah’s environmental arm since 2016, most recently as lead of the Environmental Impact Area, where she worked on developing and managing grant schemes for environmental non-profit initiatives in Malaysia.
Wong announced her move to Permian Global in a Linkedin post last week.
Permian Global develops large-scale tropical rainforest protection and restoration projects, based on standards developed by carbon certifier Verra, to generate income from the voluntary carbon markets.
Through Permian Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., its incorporated firm in Malaysia, Permian has invested in 83,381 hectares of tropical rainforests at the Kuamut Rainforest Conservation Project in Sabah. The project is a partnership with Yayasan Sabah through its subsidiary Rakyat Berjaya Sdn, Bhd., and the Sabah Forestry Department. It is projected to reduce emissions by 543,049 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year over the life of the 30-year project in the form of carbon credits.
Before Yayasan Hasanah, Wong ran the environmental sustainability team for Iskandar Regional Development Authority, the government agency that oversees the development of a special economic zone in South Johor. Over her career, she has also worked for the conservation non-profit WWF Malaysia and the Sarawak Forestry Department as a resource consultant.
