Reducing plastic use in fashion: A stepwise guide for fashion businesses to reduce plastic packaging

Reducing plastic use in fashion: A stepwise guide for fashion businesses to reduce plastic packaging

Created by Plastic ACTion (PACT) of WWF-SG, this guide is mainly for businesses in the fashion industry - from manufacturers, retailers, and e-commerce - looking to minimise packaging waste and switch to alternatives with the least environmental impact.

This guide covers why the fashion industry needs to prioritise the plastics issue, and deep dives into plastic use of the industry.

A stepwise solution is provided for the fashion industry to eliminate single-use packaging, by first reviewing their plastic footprint. Then, the guide covers an action plan based on PACT’s circular economy principles: reducing plastics use, introducing reusable packaging, seeking alternatives as a last resort, and diverting waste away from incineration by increasing recycling rates.

For each principle, the guide delves into potential solutions and their pros and cons; as well as providing global case studies to serve as inspiration.

Through this guide, businesses in the fashion industry will be able to quickly identify an effective strategy to minimise plastic use.
