Exploring the appetite for alternative proteins

Exploring the appetite for alternative proteins

The production of meat is a resource-intensive process, requiring large amounts of water and land. As a whole, agriculture is also one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases, partially because of that land use.

“Collectively, all animals reared for consumption require an estimated 32.1 million km² to grow; land area approximately equivalent to the size of Africa.”

By 2030, land savings could be up to approximately 8 million km², the equivalent landmass of Australia, if the world adopts alternative proteins in place of meat at the projected growth of the global alternative proteins market.

Download the report here for further insights into the land impact of the growing demand for alternative proteins.
