In a remarkable display of Filipino excellence and dedication to environmental stewardship, Ann Dumaliang, Managing Trustee of the Masungi Georeserve Foundation (MGFI), is poised to make a significant impact at the highly esteemed World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos, Switzerland, scheduled for January 15 to 19.
Dumaliang will join an elite group of more than 300 global influencers and over 60 heads of state and government, along with 800-plus prominent CEOs and chairs, at the WEF 2024 Annual Meeting.
As a key participant, Dumaliang is set to moderate an enlightening panel discussion on Intergenerational Wisdom featuring the esteemed wildlife conservationist Jane Goodall, Global Shaper Marie-Claire Graf, and Kiya Bastida, the founder of Re-Earth Initiative. This panel will highlight the critical role of wisdom passed through generations in shaping a sustainable future.
Furthermore, Dumaliang is poised to play a pivotal role in high-level discussions with global leaders, focusing on critical areas such as climate action, sustainable development, and landscape restoration.
She articulates a powerful message, emphasising, “Frontline environmental defenders, particularly from the Philippines, possess indispensable insights essential for addressing the climate crisis. It’s a privilege to share the Masungi story with an international audience, sparking a wave of inspiration and catalyzing urgent action for ecosystem restoration across the globe.”
“Our participation is more than just a narrative - it’s about bringing to light the unique challenges faced by the Masungi Georeserve. Highlighting these struggles underscores the necessity for authentic engagement and collaboration between civil society and decision-makers. It’s imperative that the strategies formulated in these global forums translate into tangible actions that resonate on the ground, particularly in areas where the battle for environmental preservation is most critical.”
The WEF’s Global Shapers community, Centre for Nature and Climate, and Generation Restoration program are pivotal in showcasing the Masungi Georeserve Foundation’s groundbreaking work in the conservation of limestone formations in the Rizal Province and its surrounding watersheds. These partnerships reinforce the global commitment to the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration and transcend international borders.
Gathering under the banner “Rebuilding Trust,” this year’s meeting aims to foster dialogue, cooperation, and partnerships addressing vital global issues such as economic growth, climate and nature action, energy security, technology governance, and human development.
